Steven Tackman, CPA
Branch Office Manager, Financial Advisor, Founder
I've spent over four decades in this business, and I still wake up excited about the work.
I started as a CPA in public accounting firms for eight years before shifting into financial advising in 1990. By 1995, I founded Tackman Capital Management. I earned my BA in Accounting from Michigan State University and went to graduate school at the University of Wisconsin in Milwaukee, focusing on finance analysis.
My passion for investing started 50 years ago as a Boy Scout working on a merit badge. I had to select three stocks, obtain annual reports, and track prices. I got hooked. I used money from my newspaper delivery route to buy stock and never stopped investing.
As a fiduciary, I manage client assets in alignment with their goals, objectives, and risk tolerance. I specialize in creating customized investment portfolios and developing actionable financial plans that adapt to changing circumstances. Many people don't fully understand risk and reward dynamics, so we take special care to explain everything before making recommendations. Because of our team's depth in accounting and tax matters, we address issues that clients and other planners often overlook.
I'm from Gladstone, Michigan, a town of about 5,000 on the northern shore of Lake Michigan. Growing up here in the 60s and 70s meant knowing everyone's name, walking to school, and summers at the beach playing sandlot softball or kick the can. The local Boy Scout troop satisfied my appetite for adventure. I completed a 50-mile hike at age 12, explored Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico, and attained the rank of Eagle Scout. I still live in Gladstone. It's quiet, clean, and safe with four distinct seasons. I'm the father of three adult sons: John, Christian, and Thomas. My father John was a CPA and founding partner of Anderson, Tackman & Co. His father was an accountant too. I'm the third generation of financial professionals in the family. Christian has joined me in the business, and Thomas aspires to work in wealth management. They'll represent the fourth generation, which energizes my commitment and gives our clients confidence that our legacy will continue.
I read widely, from classics to history and contemporary topics. I hike and spend time at my cabin in the Hiawatha National Forest, hunting and trout fishing. In recent years, I've gotten involved in local theater, performing in Mamma Mia and Chicago. I studied German and traveled to Berlin to practice the language and immerse myself in the culture. I'm faithful to Michigan State University and active at All Saints Catholic Church, where I sing in the choir and serve as cantor and lector.
I serve the community through the Gladstone Lions Club, as President of the Gladstone Economic Development Corporation, President of the Gladstone Area Schools Board of Education, and as chair of the Finance Council of the Catholic Diocese of Marquette. I derive my livelihood from the people here, so lending my time and talents to make life better for those who call it home comes naturally.
